About this site
The name Cracks in A Grey Sky is taken from an anthology of the Do or Die journal, an annual publication linked to Earth First! that ran for a decade from 1992. It covered environmental activism in the UK such as the road protests of the 90's, the alter-globalisation movement and Reclaim the Streets and stories from further abroad. There were vivid descriptions of direct action, interviews with organisers, sharp analysis and commentary that contributed to and challenged the movement. In many ways this is the sort of work I want to do.
At a time when direct action and grassroots organising has never been so important — our entire future literally hinges on it — we seriously lack good, accurate, insightful commentary and reporting on this in the UK. Amid the grey, dreary backdrop of contemporary Britain I hope these articles show the resistance, alternative cultures and protest around the world breaking through the cracks of a broken politics.
Initially, I’m aiming to publish once or twice a month and keep all posts free. You can subscribe for free to receive all posts straight to your inbox, but paying for a subscription and supporting me financially makes this work a lot easier. Please subscribe and watch this space!
